Welcome, dear reader!
Jenny here! Recovering perfectionist, caffeine enthusiast, lifelong horse girl, and nurse-turned-PMHNP student learning to live a slower, steadier life. I’ve been around horses for 30 years—riding, training, and caring for them through everything from scrapes and bruises to triumphs and unforgettable lessons. One of the earliest and most formative experiences was with Griffin, my first horse. He had a ton of injuries, ongoing health concerns, and training issues that spanned years. But after months of work, we had one perfect riding lesson where all his quirks and challenges came together in a balanced circle of energy—the purest expression of dressage goals. Not too long after, he injured himself and was never ridable again. That single, fleeting triumph taught me resilience, patience, and how much joy can exist even in imperfection.
Over the years, I realized that the grounding and balance I find in the barn could translate to more than just riding. It became a lens through which I see mental health, daily routines, and even the little ways our home environments can support—or sometimes sabotage—our well-being. That’s why 138 Jenny Lane exists: a space to explore the intersections of horses, mental health, and a life that feels good to live.
Here, you’ll find stories from the barn, reflections on navigating life at 40, tips for slowing down without losing momentum, and the occasional seasonal or cozy home moment (because yes, I still love a good fall candle). My hope is that you leave this space with something practical, something inspiring, or at the very least, a smile—and maybe a little horse envy.
When I’m not studying, writing, or drinking far too much coffee, you’ll find me in the barn—usually convincing a horse not to eat my jacket.
If you’re craving calm, connection, and a life that feels like home, you’re in the right place. Let’s enjoy the ride together.
